| One of the first things people notice on joining the society is that true to its word, 'The Magpies' really is a friendly society.
At shows someone will always offer to keep an eye on another member's exhibit so that they get the opportunity to get away and look around the rest of the show. |

| A brief history | |||
| The Society was originally formed in 1986 by a group of people dedicated to the preservation of road transport. The society owned an ex-United Counties bus, and for several years this was regularly seen on the local show circuit. At that time funds were raised through a sales table which accompanied the bus to the various shows the society visited.
By the mid 1990s the society began to see the preservation interests of its members become much more widely based, and as a result it started to display items of yesteryear at the shows it attended. The society took this oppurtunity to change it's image and take on a new look. Instead of hosting its own rally, a marquee was purchased to display the memorabilia and collections of its members. This prompted the society to adopt the name of "The Magpies". |
